Check out this great article I stumbled upon:
The truth behind 0% interest promos
The Canon 400D camera cost P48,500. Its interest free if you pay for 12 months. The monthly payment is P4,042. Cut down to monthly bite-sized pieces, it doesn’t look too painful. Then I asked the clerk, “What if I don’t want to pay by credit card? I want to pay in cash.”
“Mam, its P44,950 if you want to pay in cash,” she says.
Technically, there’s no violation of Administrative Order 10 issued by the Department of Trade and Industry, which put a stop to the practice of putting a card price and cash price in one price tag. But if you pester the clerk in a nice manner, he will tell you that he can give you a discount if you will pay in cash.
So, is the 0% interest for real? MoneySmarts concludes the nice round “oh” is just a figure, often in red, to catch people’s attention. The interest has been included in the price already. If I pay P4,042 a month for that Canon 400D, I will be paying 12% interest on this installment promo and not 0%. If I pay in cash, I would save P3,550 – that’s almost 2 gigabytes of additional memory for the camera.

I was supposed to get a camera and a trip to Hong Kong. When asked to choose, I picked the camera over Hong Kong.
In the end, I got neither.
On top of that, I seem to have gotten a virus when I went out yesterday.

When I pick up my paycheck at the end/beginning of each month, the first thing I do with my money is to pay my bills and outstanding debts. The next thing I do is to buy something for myself. I’m usually down in the dumps the week before payday. That usually resort from wanting to buy a shitload of things I couldn’t afford or wanting to go to places I’ve no time or funds to make even a weekend trip possible.
So, as a pick-me-up, I buy something for myself. A new pair of shoes, new clothes, new books. Behold this month’s loot:
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
by Neil Gaiman & Terry Prachet and a Gorillapod Tripod by JOBY for Compact Camera (with Bottle Cap Tripod for Compact Digital Camera)

…because it’s so much better to whine about the things you want to buy when you’re broke.
As you know, I’m in the market for a new camera. I’ve been wanting a new one for a long time, and this time I’m (hopefully) serious about actually buying one.
I’ve narrowed it down to two cameras.
Camera A was my first choice. It’s maaaarvelous. Lots of features I can see myself using. However, Camera A is pretty pricey. I’m willing to pay that much, but I won’t be doing so without wincing and even crying a little. Also, given my track record for “losing” things, I am terrified this baby will do a vanishing act.
Camera B is a great alternative to Camera A. I say great because it pretty much do the same thing Camera A can do, and it’s much more affordable. On the otherhand, in exchange for that low price, Camera B lacks a couple of functions Camera A has. Unfortunately, these are two functions that I *really* want, though I think I can manage without them. But they really would be nice to have.
There is about Php10,000 price difference between the two cameras. Which one should I buy?
